He is melting

The snow is melting slowly but surley … I guess it will not take very long until he is gone completly…with the southwinds the past times and all trhe sand with the wind the snow was getting quiet brown….

 

Me and a clunker….

Today I was by a car, well, better of one scrap metal cart on the way… I hoped  to see  some of the lamb vulture …. I have  also seen some but unfortunately, they have been too far away to make quite better nice photos…like you easily see on the pictures, I was on the way to Anopolis…

 

The weather is fantastically today…….warm…. Sunshine…. and great colours!!!!

Anopolis and what a great weather today…

Today in the morning we have been in Anopolis….. great weather with amasing view!!

I am shocked about the conditions of the  trees in the wood between Anopolis and high in the direction of Mouri…. they must have some kind of illness…. many trees have died quite completely…. others are, at the tree trunk so black so you think they burned down…. it is really a shame about this wood !!!!

On the way back then the really amasing view of  Chora Sfakion and the whole coast…. unfortunatly had I my complete family with me, and they have been so terrible hungry that t I could not take more pictures!!!!

 

…from the other side……

Today in the morning I went to Chania…. the look at the Levka Ori, the White Mountains, was so fantastic !!      I am very glad taking the pictures  immediately  in the morning , because it became more and more cloudy….. if you are looking at all this, you just can believe you are in Switzeland or Austria……

 

On the way back to Sfakia the White Mountains have been covered by the clouds, but we had an incredible view along the Southcoast and the Sea … Gavdos seemed to be so close as seldom…..

 

 

 

 

 

 

The white “Madares”

Madares is another word for the Lefka Ori. The word Madares comes from the ancient Greek word  μάδαρος madaros what means so much as ” nude”…. because at first sight the mountains of the Lefka Ori look very naked, like a wild scenery.

Chora Sfakion is surrounded from the mountains  that you cannot see the rear higher mountains …. but a few hundred metres outside from Chora Sfakion in the direction of the east, there is a place where you can have   also a look at higher Madares, and there I am  going  during the winter months  with pleasure to see whether they are snowy or not….. many quite high summits are already snowy  for longer time now but   the lower ones, however, only recently…. of course its not  allowed to be  cloudy around them ….. and that I had today in the morning and I finally went there and saw the snowy  white Madares..

 

Differently its of course up in Anopolis, there you have  a view on a much bigger part of the Sfakian Madares. I hope this days I will be able to make a trip up there, to see more of the snowy mountains…..it must be a good day of course… often down here in Chora Sfakion the weather is really good with a clear sky and now clouds and as soon you go up you are in midden the clouds…we΄ll see!!!
